Q: Are there online information sources that can tell me if a particular patient is currently covered by Medicaid, Medi-Cal, etc.?
A: Every state has a database that tracks which individuals are enrolled in Medicaid; which health plan (or “managed care organization”) they belong to (if any); what type of coverage they have and whether there are any restrictions; and when their Medicaid eligibility expires, among other information. While these databases are not typically accessible to outside companies, organizations, or individuals, it would hypothetically be possible to create a partnership with the agency that oversees this database in a particular state and thereby gain access to it that way.
This website provides information about Medicaid eligibility requirements for each state, and may be useful if you are looking to gain a better understanding of a particular state’s Medicaid program: http://www.medicaid.gov/Medicaid-CHIP-Program-Information/By-State/By-State.html.
